Are You Too Tall For Your Own Good?
We all want to be taller. Or at the very least, be the healthy kind of tall for our age and weight. Unfortunately, not all of us are so lucky. But before short folks begin to whine, taller people have issues, too. Just because you have the height, doesn’t often mean you’ve got the might. Think of it as a double-edged sword: it’s a blessing AND a curse!
Let’s see what tall people have to put up with on a daily basis:
1. Awkward Shows of Affection
We usually want to be tall so we can give proper hugs and/or kisses to our loved ones. But be too tall and it could turn awkward. There are typically two things you’re always self-conscious about: 1) if you smell nice (because the one you’re hugging is too close to your pits), and 2) having to stoop or crouch down a little lower every time.
Want to hold hands and walk side by side with your significant other? If you’re a fast walker, you could end up dragging them. Stay cool, stride slow, and watch the sunset. You’ll get through this.
2. Furniture Seems To Be Smaller
If you’ve quickly grown taller over the past few years, expect to buy a new bed. And that bathtub you enjoy in the upstairs bathroom? Good luck stretching your legs in there. Like some sort of goblin magic, the very thing that makes you attractive hinders you from enjoying the comforts of your own home.
Maybe it’s time to start real estate shopping, too? Because your ceiling has been giving you dandruff lately. Oh wait, those could be wood shavings from bumping your head too much.
3. Shopping Is No Longer Fun
It used to be that you can fit into anything – and everything. But now that you’re a foot taller than the rest, it’s becoming a pain to shop at your favorite store. Not only don’t they have a shirt that won’t become a midriff after washing, all their pants look cropped.
On the upside, your legs look fabulous with a mini skirt (if you’re a girl) or black dress slacks (if you’re a boy). Still, you wish they had that pullover in a ‘bigger’ size.
4. Traveling Can Be a Nuisance
From car seats to airplane seats – they all seem to find a away to make your knees hurt. Going on a boat doesn’t make it any better. All that swaying, tossing, and turning is just as awkward. And why do they make cabins and hallway beams too low? Either you need tickets to a bigger plane (Airbus A380 perhaps?); or they need to make ALL planes the same size. Same goes for cars.
5. Photo Ops Make You Feel Left Out
If only all your friends had the same height. But alas – life is not so fair. Being 6 foot 8 may have garnered you title as the school’s youngest basketball player; but now you’re always at the back of group photos. If you want to sit up front, you need to sit down, crouch low, or stoop. Not exactly comfortable – but at least your legs look amazing.
There’s no harm in wishing to grow taller. Eat a healthy a diet, stay active, get plenty of sleep, and you might just find yourself with a ‘TallPeopleProblems’ hashtag.
